A PART OF THE COLORADO MUSIC STRATEGY
The goal of the Colorado Music Strategy is to increase revenue for Colorado-based musicians and music-related businesses while also raising the profile of the state’s music scene around the world.
“If we can help Colorado musicians earn a living doing what they love and help them stay in Colorado, that’s a cool thing,” said Margaret Hunt, Colorado Creative Industries director of public policy and creative districts. “I know a lot of the musicians work several jobs to make ends meet. If we can help them increase their quality of life, that’s a good thing for everybody.”
CCI began conceptualizing the strategy about two years ago, engaging stakeholders in 37 Colorado cities and communities after watching the growth of the state’s music industry. Since 2011, the state has seen a 10.9-percent increase in job growth in music, higher than the national average of 9.9 percent.
The music industry in Colorado creates 16,000 jobs and $658 million in revenue annually, according to CCI.
